5 reasons to have an in-home photoshoot

Studio shoots can give you beautiful photos. There is no doubt about that.

There are so many talented photographers who work with props, outfits and dazzling displays to create perfect photos of your baby.

But there is an alternative - in-home photography.

If you’re unsure what in-home means, read more about in-home lifestyle photography first and how I approach these sessions.

So let’s get to it...

1. I come to you

I know how complicated life can be with a baby. The preparation to get out of the house can be stressful enough.

Give yourself a break and let the photographer come to you. No forgotten milk, frantic Google Map searches or your shirt on inside out.

2. Everything is where you need it

Things are where they should be. Your home has no doubt become a baby-proof zone.

You’ve got milk machines, plenty of spare dummies and muslins in various strategic locations around the house.

You are prepared and comfortable. And so is your baby.

A big concern for most Mums is socially breastfeeding. Are you breastfeeding or planning to? You can do it in the comfort and privacy of your own home.

3. It’s all about you, too

Of course, your baby should take front and centre stage. But you and your family should be involved too.

A hint of Mum or Dad is enough to keep your baby the focus of the photoshoot but to highlight your relationship with your baby. These are some of my favourite types of photo.

4. Variety

We have a houseful of opportunities, literally.

We can explore different rooms and your favourite spots around the house.

We can photograph in your baby’s nursery, cuddled up on the sofa or napping in the snooze cot next to your bed.

This gives the photos some variety in the short time we have together.

5. Natural and authentic

This is my favourite. Capturing real life. The natural moments and those everyday details.

I look at studio-based photos and although can be beautifully perfect, I sometimes get the feeling they are too perfect - lacking a little bit of depth. But that could just be me.

I convey what life is really like with a baby of their age. What do they love doing the most? What makes them belly laugh? Let’s capture that.

BONUS: Accidents sometimes happen

We’ve all been there. The dreaded poo-plosion over a fresh outfit or milk sick all over your shoulder.

Luckily you’ll have wardrobes on hand in the event of the inevitable accidents!

I’m not trying to steer you away from a studio shoot. I’m just giving you reasons to consider an alternative.
